A big thank you to Bankstown RSL for their donation of $4,975 to the Bankstown City Choir at a Club Grants Program held at the Revesby Workers Club on Friday, 10th August 2018.
3 of our Committee Members, Dot Hemming (President), Judy Learmonth (Vice President, Social and Welfare) and Gordon Learmonth (Secretary) were present to receive a cheque on behalf of the choir. Bankstown City Choir was nominated as one of the 136 projects sharing a total of $1,468,565.
The choir hosts 2 main concerts each year and this grant is to assist the choir to continue their services to the community by providing special musical Sunday afternoons to the residents of 9 local Aged Care Facilities over a period of 12 months. “When we sing it reaches memories buried in the audience and the pleasure of singing by choir members invigorates us and the audience who often start singing along” says our President.
Our choir members are very appreciative of this wonderful grant and we hope to bring more joy to these residents of the Bankstown area. We are always open to receiving more choir members and if anyone wishes to join our choir or find out more about us, you would be very welcome to come on a Tuesday night to our practices in the Georges Hall Community Centre, 188 Birdwood Road, Georges Hall, 7.30pm – 9.30pm or ring 9644 9808 for more information. Music reading ability and auditions are not necessary. We now have a Facebook page as well as our website.
