So far this year Bankstown City Choir has been busy, our calendar for 2016 commenced with a concert for choir member and Tenor stephen miller who retired early in March this year and the choir supported a farewell concert at St John Mark Anglican Church at Chester Hill.
Our commitment to the Aged and Disabled community has seen the choir perform at 5 Nursing Home facilities in the Bankstown Municipality to date.There are still 3 ADC concerts on our calendar for 2016, thus we are honouring our commitment to Bankstown Sports Club who have supported us with a Community Grant in 2016. More recently we were fortunate to receive a Community Grant for 2017 from Bankstown Sports Club for a commitment of 9 Aged and Disabled concerts in the coming year.
The choir’s mid year concert “Curtains Up” was held in June and featured many popular musical theatre numbers. On this occasion the choir was supported by several professional musicians and the audience loved it.
We are up to August and rehearsals are very much underway for a combined concert with the Bankstown Brass Band to be held 17th September, at the Yagoona Senior Citizens Centre, Cooper Road ,Yagoona.
Our Music Director, Garry Brahe has selected a lovely program for our Christmas Concert. It will include some of the traditional Christmas Carols but also a number of Carols that have a distinct Aussie appeal. The concert will be held on 27th November, at 2pm at Georges Hall Community Centre, 188 Birdwood Road, Georges Hall. Admission $15 afternoon tea included.
Bankstown City Choir is always looking for new members, particularly Tenors and Basses. You are not required to audition, and although it would help if you can read music it is not an essential. many. Many of our present members do not read music.
Bankstown City Choir rehearsed on a Tuesday evening 7.30pm till 9.30pm at Georges Hall Community Centre in Birdwood Road, Georges Hall. members pay a very reasonable weekly fee. The uniform for ladies is a long sleeve white shirtmaker blouse, black slacks, nearly black stockings and black shoes. Gentlemen wear a white long sleeve shirt, a black bow tie, black trousers and black shoes. We have a specially designed vest for ladies and gentlemen which is an additional cost.
